John Goddard Desk and Bookcase Plan

$400.00

This iconic Newport piece was originally made for the Brown family. It is embellished with 6 shells on the outside and another 3 on the inside. The finials are typical 3 part Rhode Island style and the feet are ogee brackets with scrolls. Two of the doors fold against each other and the other opens independently. Although the original stands over 9 feet tall, most of the others in the group are around 8 feet, and the height can be adjusted by reducing the height of the upper case doors. Primary wood is mahogany but the secondary wood can be your choice. Original secondary wood was chestnut and pine. This plan is 3 sheets, full size and comes with a hardware list. Measured from the original when Christie’s hired me to make a copy for the owners. The original sold in 1989 for 11.1 million dollars, setting a record price for a piece of American furniture.
