Hi- I signed up for the Newport style carving class this summer and I am starting to look into buying the recommended carving tools. Can anyone suggest where I can get them.. I know Woodcraft sells them but because I have to buy a lot of them I'm trying to shop around and save some money. Thanks, Paul

Where are you located? There is one coming up around me (eastern CT) on 2/18. They will have a lot of carving tools there.

Can you give me the name of the tool auction and if they have a web site? Thanks. By the way what class or classes have you taken at the Breed School and how were they? I'm really looking forward to the class I signed up for. Thanks again. Paul

Not sure that they have a website for the auction. It is a Bud Steere auction--they have one once a month most months. It is at a masonic temple, sorry, don't remember exactly what town. It is off Route 138 near the junction with 4 in soutwestern RI. I took a ball and claw carving class with Al. He is a great guy and you will learn a lot. Have you done any Newport carving?

I've never done any Newport carving. I took a ball and claw carving class at North Bennet Street School in Boston. I want to take the Newport carving class because I've always wanted to build a Newport chest of drawers or a Newport desk. What furniture have you made and do you have any pictures? I would love to see them. Thanks again for your help.

I took the ball and claw class with Al when I was building a John Townsend highboy--I got the measurements from Al. I posted a LOT of pictures of it on this site--just look at my profile and you will see them. Right now I am making a copy of a block front desk that is owned by the Conn Historical Society.
