Carving in the Newport style

05/14/2007 to 05/18/2007

Many otherwise accomplished cabinetmakers avoid making furniture in the Goddard-Townsend style of Rhode Island due to the extensive and prominent carved elements that define the style. In this class the students will learn about typical construction details of the Newport cabinetmakers as well as how to carve convex and concave shells, ball and claw feet and finials found on so much of their work. With cast models to work from as well as plenty of personal instruction to demystify the process, students will find that carving these bold and elegant elements is well within their grasp.

This class will also be available 06/04/2007 to 06/08/2007
